They Know Not What They Do

Kanye, if you had the slightest understanding of the depth of suffering that the crown of thorns represents, you would have run so far away from that photo shoot that we would have to call you Kanye East. If you could only feel the weight of humiliation and separation that those fake scars represent, you would have not only passed on the idea, but refused the cover all together. Would you pose as Martin Luther King with a gunshot wound to his head? Would Rolling Stone even suggest it? Of course not.

Jan Wenner, I pray for your soul, that God has not hardened your heart. Your magazine stopped being relevant a long time ago.

I found myself filled with righteous anger upon discovering this cover. Not anger at Kanye or Jan, but the powers and principalites that rule this earth. Let's pray for God to reveal himself to all who were involved with this mockery of the true Lord and Savior.

And please don't buy Rolling Stone.

Great post, Ryan... when I saw this cover for the first time, my heart experienced many emotions. I was angry (as you said), but saddened at the same time. What a sign of the brokenness that is present in this world.

Someone sent me an article that quoted Kanye from the Rolling Stone interview. It also made me sad for him...

The title of your post is spot on. They (we) truly do not always know what they (we) do. But as Paul says, thanks be to God Who will save us from these bodies of sin and death.

Yeah, this kind of thing is to be expected from the Hollywood crowd, but it still breaks my heart to see that Christ is just a cartoon character to most of them. The crown of thorns is just a prop or part of a costume. I wish they could know how much Jesus suffered for them.

Ram, I could not agree with you more. Love the MLK analogy. Can you imagine the backlash if someone posed for such a pic?

I am more disappointed and embarrassed (than angry) that such a callous act is committed in our times and we (America) sit back and watch our country reject God and His amazing sacrifice.

The sign of the times: 50 and Game get shot, their hardships catapult them into heroes, Kanye East gets "robbed" by the Grammys and his deprivation is mourned. Yet, we don't get the big picture. How does Kanye's "suffering" compare to Jesus’ degradation. Talk about forest through the trees.

Thanks Chris. Well said as always. I don't think we'll ever see a media in our day that gets the "big picture". They are always looking to find the next big thing and burn last week's has-been at the stake.
